Membership

Wordpress

Wordpress still works flawlessly having member signups, but plugins will be required. While Ghost trumps Wordpress when it comes to charging monthly subscriptions, we do recommend Wordpress if you are selling products to your members.

Creating a membership signup process on your WordPress site involves several steps, from choosing the right plugin to setting up membership levels and customizing the registration process. Here’s a straightforward guide to get you started:

1. Choose a Membership Plugin

First, you'll need to select a plugin that fits your site's needs. There are several popular WordPress membership plugins available, each with its unique features:

  • MemberPress: Offers powerful access rules for content restriction, integrates with many email marketing services, and supports multiple payment gateways.
  • Paid Memberships Pro: A versatile plugin that includes flexible membership levels, detailed reporting, and a customizable checkout process.
  • Restrict Content Pro: Known for its simplicity and effectiveness, it provides content restriction, built-in payment integrations, and comprehensive member management.

2. Install and Activate Your Chosen Plugin

  • Navigate to your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New, and search for your chosen plugin.
  • Click Install Now and then Activate.

3. Set Up Membership Levels

  • Access the plugin's settings from your WordPress dashboard (the location and name will vary by plugin).
  • Define different membership levels or tiers. For example, you could offer a free level, a premium level with additional content, and a VIP level with one-on-one coaching sessions.
  • Specify the pricing, subscription period (e.g., monthly, annually), and access rules for each level.

4. Configure Payment Gateways

  • To accept payments, configure your payment gateways within the plugin settings. Most membership plugins support PayPal, Stripe, and other popular payment processors.
  • Follow the plugin’s instructions to connect your payment gateway account with your WordPress site.

5. Customize the Signup and Login Forms

  • Use the plugin's form builder or templates to create and customize your signup and login forms. Ensure they're user-friendly and include all necessary fields.
  • Some plugins allow you to add custom fields to collect additional information from your members during signup.

6. Create Membership Content

  • Start creating members-only content that provides value to your subscribers. This can include articles, videos, webinars, downloadable resources, and more.
  • Use the plugin’s content restriction features to control which membership levels have access to specific content.
  • Place signup links or buttons prominently on your website. Consider adding them to your navigation menu, homepage, or as call-to-action buttons within your content.
  • Promote your membership through your website, social media channels, email marketing, and any other platforms where your potential members are active.

8. Monitor and Adjust

  • Use your plugin’s reporting tools to monitor signup rates, member engagement, and revenue.
  • Be prepared to adjust your membership levels, pricing, or content based on member feedback and performance metrics.
